This agreement carries substantial historical significance because it stands as the\u00a0<strong>first<\/strong>\u00a0<em>international academic validation agreement<\/em>\u00a0between an American public university and a Greek private college. Notably, it predates any other similar agreement in Greece and all Eastern Europe.<\/p>\n<h4><strong>FORMATION AND ESTABLISHMENT\u00a0OF THE\u00a0COLLEGE SECTOR\u00a0IN GREECE<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>Since 1989, the pioneering agreement of academic validation has enabled Greek students to pursue courses for academic credit within Greece, leading to a bachelor\u2019s degree (B.A. or B.S.) conferred by the State University of New York (SUNY)\u2014initially SUNY New Paltz, later followed by SUNY Empire.<\/p>\n<p>This historic agreement has significantly\u00a0<strong>shaped<\/strong>\u00a0the map of post-secondary education in Greece by:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Paving the way for further academic collaborations between New York College and other public universities in the U.S. and Europe.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Setting a precedent that evolved into similar but extended forms of agreements, such as international academic franchise agreements, between Greek colleges and esteemed American or British universities.<\/li>\n<li>Establishing an applied\u00a0<strong>model<\/strong>\u00a0(international academic validation) as a basis for the official recognition of private colleges by the Greek State. This model culminated after 23 years in Law 4009\/2012, which explicitly mandates such international agreements (academic validation or franchise) as a precondition for official recognition.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.nyc.gr\/images\/uploads\/Untitled%20design_14.jpg\" alt=\"NYC Athens\" width=\"863\" height=\"555\" \/><\/p>\n<h3><strong>1990<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>In 1990,<strong>\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong>Elias Foutsis,\u00a0<em>Hon PhD<\/em>, the President and Founder of\u00a0<strong>New York College<\/strong>, solidified the collaboration between New York College and the\u00a0<strong>State University of New York<\/strong>\u00a0by donating an authentic replica of the classical statue of\u00a0<strong>Hermes of Praxiteles<\/strong>\u00a0to its campus in New Paltz, New York State. Crafted by the National Technical University of Athens (\u0395\u039c\u03a0) in authentic Pentelic marble for this purpose, the statue has adorned the campus of the State University of New York at New Paltz for decades, serving as a cultural representation of Greece in the United States. Situated across from Zappeion and Olympieion (known as &#8216;The Pillars of Olympian Zeus&#8217;), the campus comprises primarily four buildings:\u00a0<strong>Syngros<\/strong>\u00a0Hall,\u00a0<strong>Mumper<\/strong>\u00a0Hall,\u00a0<strong>Kapodistrias<\/strong>\u00a0Hall, and\u00a0<strong>Paparrigopoulou<\/strong>\u00a0Hall.<\/p>\n<h4><strong>WORLD-CLASS CITY CAMPUS<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>Positioned on the edge of Plaka, Athens\u2019 historic district, and overlooking the National Garden, Zappeion, and Olympieion, the campus occupies a distinguished location, nestled in the shadow of the Acropolis and the Parthenon, where classical knowledge has thrived for centuries. The illustrious history of the four-building complex spans three centuries, from the 19th century to the present day (21st century), reflecting the rich cultural heritage of the surrounding area. Furthermore, the functional collaboration between NYC and the neighboring historic\u00a0<em>National Gymnastics Club<\/em>\u00a0(\u0395\u0393\u03a3)\u2014founded in 1893\u2014establishes an educational-sporting &#8216;dipole,&#8217; cementing its reputation as a world-class city campus steeped in history.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.nyc.gr\/images\/uploads\/_1.jpg\" alt=\"NYC Athens\" width=\"863\" height=\"555\" \/><\/h3>\n<h3><strong>1994<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>During the graduation ceremony held on the\u00a0<strong>SUNY New Paltz<\/strong>\u00a0campus in 1994, BACHELOR degrees were conferred upon the inaugural cohort of 20 graduates from the joint 4-year degree program of\u00a0<strong>New York College\u00a0<\/strong>and SUNY New Paltz.<\/p>\n<h4><strong>REALIZING<\/strong>\u00a0A VISIONARY GOAL OF\u00a0<strong>GLOBAL<\/strong>\u00a0SIGNIFICANCE<\/h4>\n<p>With the graduation of the pioneering cohort of the joint four-year degree program of NYC and SUNY New Paltz, the shared objective outlined in the groundbreaking 1989 international agreement of academic validation came to fruition. As articulated in the agreement, the aim was to\u00a0<em>\u201c<\/em><em>enable highly motivated but financially non-privileged students to pursue a rigorous academic program, irrespective of financial need<\/em><em>\u201d<\/em>\u2014a goal of global significance that was both forward-thinking and practical, as evidenced by its realization in 1994 and its enduring impact thereafter.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>1998<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>After nine years of successful operation,\u00a0<strong>New York College<\/strong>\u00a0established\u00a0<strong>the University of New York in Prague<\/strong>\u00a0(UNYP) in the Czech Republic, marking the first institution of higher learning to be recognized as a private university by the Czech Ministry of Education.<\/p>\n<h4><strong>STRATEGIC\u00a0ACHIEVEMENT OF\u00a0INTERNATIONAL\u00a0ACADEMIC IMPORTANCE<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>A shared strategic objective of both institutions, Greek\u00a0<strong>NYC\u00a0<\/strong>and American\u00a0<strong>SUNY<\/strong>, has been the academic agreement between them since 1989 to\u00a0<em>\u201c<\/em><em>become a model for similar programs in other countries with limited resources invested in education.<\/em><em>\u201d<\/em>\u00a0This ambition has been effectively realized by the\u00a0<strong>New York College Educational Group<\/strong>\u00a0(NYC Group), not only through the operation of UNYP in the Czech Republic since 1998 but also through the active involvement of the NYC Group in establishing additional private universities in Southeastern Europe (Tirana, Skopje, Belgrade) from 2002 to 2019, all in cooperation with the\u00a0<strong>State University of New York<\/strong>\u2014either SUNY New Paltz or SUNY Empire.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>2001<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>In 2001, the NYC inaugurated its branch in\u00a0<strong>Thessaloniki<\/strong>, serving as the academic outreach of the college in Northern Greece and the Balkans.<\/p>\n<h4><strong>INTERNATIONAL<\/strong>\u00a0ACADEMIC OUTLOOK<\/h4>\n<p>New York College in Thessaloniki, Greece, places special emphasis on fostering an outward-looking perspective among its students to align them with the demands of the increasingly globalized world economy.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.nyc.gr\/images\/uploads\/H.jpg\" alt=\"NYC Athens\" width=\"863\" height=\"555\" \/><\/p>\n<h3><strong>2005<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>The\u00a0<strong>Doctoral Studies Department<\/strong>\u00a0at New York College (NYC) in Greece, along with a similar department at its affiliate UNYP in the Czech Republic, was inaugurated in 2005 in academic cooperation with the\u00a0<strong>University of Bolton<\/strong>\u00a0in the UK.<\/p>\n<h4><strong>ACADEMIC CULMINATION<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>The Doctoral Studies Department, established at NYC and UNYP in collaboration with the University of Bolton, represents an academic pinnacle of the successful trajectory of the NYC Group, which expanded the horizons of the Collegiate Sector of Greek Education in 2005:\u00a0<strong>Subsequently<\/strong>, other Greek colleges have implemented similar programs for doctoral degrees awarded by foreign universities.<\/p>\n<p><strong><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.nyc.gr\/images\/uploads\/U.jpg\" alt=\"NYC Athens\" width=\"863\" height=\"555\" \/><\/strong><\/p>\n<h3><strong>2009<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>In 2009, NYC expanded into the broader Athens region by adding a five-storey building to its facilities. The new building, named\u00a0<strong>NYC Pythagoras Hall<\/strong>, is situated in Kallithea, equidistant between the NYC Athens Campus and the harbor of Piraeus.<\/p>\n<h4><strong>TECHNOLOGICAL-EDUCATION HUB<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>Located near the Department of Informatics and Telematics of Harokopio University, as well as the central facilities of state corporations (such as Information Society SA and the General Secretariat of Information Systems),\u00a0<em>NYC Pythagoras Hall<\/em>\u00a0serves as the state-of-the-art\u00a0<strong>technological-education hub<\/strong>\u00a0of NYC, offering students cutting-edge resources for their academic pursuits.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.nyc.gr\/images\/uploads\/O.jpg\" alt=\"NYC Athens\" width=\"863\" height=\"555\" \/><\/p>\n<h3><strong>2012<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>The enactment of Law 4009\/2012 marks a significant milestone in the establishment of colleges in Greece as institutions of university studies. This legislation not only reclassified Greek colleges up from \u201cCentres of Postsecondary Studies\u201d to \u201c<strong>Colleges<\/strong>\u201d but also recognized the degrees awarded by foreign universities to graduates of Greek colleges as professionally equivalent to those conferred by Greek (state) universities.<\/p>\n<h4><strong>NOTABLE VINDICATION OF NYC\u2019s ACADEMIC PARADIGM<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>For\u00a0<strong>New York College<\/strong>\u00a0(NYC) and the\u00a0<strong>State University of New York<\/strong>\u00a0(SUNY), Law 4009\/2012 represents a significant vindication. The law mandates a fundamental condition for the licensing and operation of any college in Greece: the existence of an international academic\u00a0<strong>validation<\/strong>\u00a0or\u00a0<strong>franchise<\/strong>\u00a0agreement between the college and at least one foreign university. NYC and SUNY exemplified such an agreement through their 1989\u00a0<strong>model<\/strong>\u00a0agreement, historically the\u00a0<strong>first<\/strong>\u00a0<em>comprehensive international academic\u00a0<strong>validation<\/strong>\u00a0agreement\u00a0<\/em>in Greece and Eastern Europe.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>2014 &#8211; 2018<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>The world ranking of New York College (NYC) in the\u00a0<em>Webometrics Ranking of World Universities<\/em>\u00a0for eight successive semesters, from the fall semester of 2014 until the spring semester of 2018, underscores the prominence of NYC in the College Sector of Greece in the long run. With eight intrasectoral\u2014i.e., within the College Sector of Greece\u2014first-place rankings from 2014 to 2018, New York College has consistently\u00a0<strong>outperformed<\/strong>\u00a0all other Greek corporate colleges in terms of world rank: Those eight first-place rankings of NYC continue to stand today as an\u00a0<strong>unbroken record of excellence<\/strong>\u00a0in the College Sector of Greece.<\/p>\n<p>In 2018, the\u00a0<a title=\"NYC Athens\" href=\"https:\/\/www.uoa.gr\/fileadmin\/user_upload\/PDF-files\/anakoinwseis\/ekdoseis\/2405_pinakes-katataxis-final.pdf\">Quality Assurance Unit<\/a>\u00a0(QAU) of the\u00a0<a title=\"NYC Athens\" href=\"https:\/\/en.uoa.gr\/\">National and Kapodistrian University of Athens<\/a>\u00a0(NKUA) highlighted NYC\u2019s achievement by publishing comparative lists with the world ranks of Greek institutions of higher learning. Excerpts from the QAU\u2019s publication regarding the world rank of NYC were also republished at the time (2018) in\u00a0<em>Kathimerini<\/em>, the premier Greek daily newspaper (issue seq. no. 29,810).<\/p>\n<h4><strong>AUTHORITATIVE WORLD RANKING<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>According to the\u00a0<a title=\"NYC Athens\" href=\"https:\/\/www.uoa.gr\/fileadmin\/user_upload\/PDF-files\/anakoinwseis\/ekdoseis\/2405_pinakes-katataxis-final.pdf\">QAU study<\/a>\u00a0(2018),\u00a0<em>Webometrics Ranking of World Universities<\/em>\u2014compiled by the\u00a0<strong>Cybermetrics Lab<\/strong>\u00a0of the\u00a0<a title=\"NYC Athens\" href=\"https:\/\/www.csic.es\/en\/csic\">Spanish Higher Council for Scientific Research<\/a>\u00a0(CSIC), Spain&#8217;s leading\u00a0<strong>public<\/strong>\u00a0research organization\u2014is considered\u00a0<em>\u201c<strong>one of the most reliable ranking tables globally<\/strong>\u201d<\/em>: According to Professor Thanos Dimopoulos, the NAUA Rector at the time (2018),\u00a0<em>\u201c<strong>it is based\u00a0on data directly verifiable on the internet, avoiding\u00a0indicators that rely heavily on interviews, questionnaires and\u00a0opinion surveys, which may be biased or subjective.<\/strong>\u201d\u00a0<\/em>Therefore the authoritative nature of Webometrics has solidified NYC&#8217;s position as a pioneer in international education.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.nyc.gr\/images\/uploads\/%CE%94%CE%B5%CE%BA%CE%AD%CE%BC%CE%B2%CF%81%CE%B9%CE%BF%CF%82%201990%2C%20%CF%83%CF%84%CE%BF%20%CE%9A%CF%84%CE%AF%CF%81%CE%B9%CE%BF%20%CE%94%CE%B9%CE%BF%CE%AF%CE%BA%CE%B7%CF%83%CE%B7%CF%82%20(Administration%20Building)%20%CF%84%CE%BF%CF%85%20STATE%20UNIVERSITY%20OF%20NEW%20YORK%20%CF%83%CF%84%CE%B7%CE%BD%20%CF%80%CE%B1%CE%BD%CE%B5%CF%80%CE%B9%CF%83%CF%84%CE%B7%CE%BC%CE%B9%CE%BF%CF%8D%CF%80%CE%BF%CE%BB%CE%B7%20%CF%83%CF%84%CE%BF%20New%20Paltz%20%CE%A4%CE%BF%20%CE%AC%CE%B3%CE%B1%CE%BB%CE%BC%CE%B1%20%CF%84%CE%BF%CF%85%20%CE%95%CF%81%CE%BC%CE%BF%CF%8D%20%CF%84%CE%BF%CF%85%20%CE%A0%CF%81%CE%B1%CE%BE%CE%B9%20(2).jpg\" alt=\"NYC Athens\" width=\"863\" height=\"555\" \/><\/p>\n<h3><\/h3>\n<h3><strong>2021<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>New York College is the\u00a0<strong>only<\/strong>\u00a0college of university studies in Greece that organized multiple anniversary events and commemorative actions for the\u00a0<strong>Bicentennial<\/strong>\u00a0of the\u00a0<strong>Greek Revolution<\/strong>. Among these actions was the synergy of the NYC Film Studies Department with world-renowned Greek composer Vangelis Papathanasiou (VANGELIS), Oscar winner and world pioneer in electronic music, to produce an anniversary video entitled\u00a0<em>\u201c<\/em><a title=\"NYC Athens\" href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=fT0sYU9WufI\">The Bicentennial Great Walk of Athens<\/a>.<em>\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<h4><strong>THE SWAN SONG OF A GREAT HELLENE<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>This bicentenary video,\u00a0<em>\u201c<\/em><a title=\"NYC Athens\" href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=fT0sYU9WufI\">The Bicentennial Great Walk of Athens<\/a>,<em>\u201d<\/em>\u00a0has historical significance for NYC and the whole world because it is in effect the\u00a0<em>\u201c<\/em>Swan Song<em>\u201d of\u00a0<\/em>VANGELIS<em>: It is<\/em>\u00a0the last production with his music (2021), just one year before his passing away peacefully (May 19, 2022) as a model citizen of the world and a Great Hellene, who honored Greece and elevated the human spirit many times in his globally significant life.<\/p>\n<p><strong><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/fT0sYU9WufI\" width=\"560\" height=\"314\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\" data-mce-fragment=\"1\"><\/iframe><\/strong><\/p>\n<h3><strong>2023<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>A comprehensive 10-year review, spanning from July 2013 to July 2023, solidifies the position New York College (NYC) as the top corporate college in Greece according to the\u00a0<em>Webometrics Ranking of World Universities<\/em>: With\u00a0<strong>eight<\/strong>\u00a0first places,\u00a0<strong>three<\/strong>\u00a0second places, and\u00a0<strong>three<\/strong>\u00a0third places during this period (2013-2023), New York College has achieved more distinctions at all levels compared to other Greek corporate colleges. This remarkable feat underscores a decade of excellence for the international New York College Educational Group (NYC Group), reinforcing its status as a distinguidhed player in the private college sector of tertiary education.<\/p>\n<h4><strong>GOLDEN DECADE<\/strong>\u00a0OF NEW YORK COLLEGE<\/h4>\n<p>Published in\u00a0<a title=\"NYC Athens\" href=\"https:\/\/www.alfavita.gr\/ekpaideysi\/426850_dikopo-mahairi-i-webometrics-gia-ta-kollegia\">ALFAVITA<\/a>\u00a0and other educational-news blogs (<a title=\"NYC Athens\" href=\"https:\/\/www.foititikanea.gr\/%CE%BA%CE%BF%CE%BB%CE%BB%CE%B5%CE%B3%CE%B9%CE%B1\/30065-%CE%B4%CE%AF%CE%BA%CE%BF%CF%80%CE%BF-%CE%BC%CE%B1%CF%87%CE%B1%CE%AF%CF%81%CE%B9-%CE%B7-webometrics-%CE%B3%CE%B9%CE%B1-%CF%84%CE%B1-%CE%BA%CE%BF%CE%BB%CE%BB%CE%AD%CE%B3%CE%B9\">FOITITITIKA NEA<\/a>,\u00a0<a title=\"NYC Athens\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ekpaideyo.gr\/index.php\/technology\/1366-webometrics\">EKPAIDEYO.GR<\/a>, etc.) in Fall 2023, this review highlights that only the NYC Group\u2014and no other private educational institution in Greece\u2014has consistently maintained a presence in the honorary \u201cWORLD\u201d list of Webometrics, alongside the top worldwide 12,000 Higher Education Institutions or HEIs (top 37.5% HEIs in the world).
